--The title of the poem is Suicide’s argument which is coming from the other side instead of the person that is killing themselves, and see what the other half to say. The other half in the poem is nature and nature does not like suicide.
-The first line is interest b/c he is saying before the birth of my life; that is symbolically saying he was once dead, or bored w/life. Then he goes on talking about how it was not his wishes for what had been done. Profoundly the author begins to state that in order to enjoy life he would have to say "YES" b/c "YES" is the way of life, then he goes on to say does "NO" mean death? -In the second half of the poem Nature answers the poet by stating all the good things it has stowed upon him as a person, and killing himself would be a disrespectful thing to do. Nature goes on to say "Inspect, compare! Then die--if die you dare!" So nature is wanting the person who is thinking about committing suicide o think of all the good things they have and to think about life. So much was put into this person and they are considered a master piece in the eyes of nature. Before that person wishes to destroy the master piece they need to sit down and debate the pros and cons The Poem: Ere the birth of my life, if I wished it or no No question was asked me--it could not be so ! If the life was the question, a thing sent to try And to live on be YES; what can NO be ? to die. NATURE'S ANSWER Is't returned, as 'twas sent ? Is't no worse for the wear ? Think first, what you ARE ! Call to mind what you WERE ! I gave you innocence, I gave you hope, Gave health, and genius, and an ample scope, Return you me guilt, lethargy, despair ? Make out the invent'ry ; inspect, compare ! Then die--if die you dare !
